Cam Newton will never quiet all the critics during his NFL career. First impressions last a long time and they are fueled by the media in sports. So much negative stuff was said about Cam Newton before he took a NFL snap that some fans are going to stay negative towards him forever.

And sadly even in the year 2011, some of the Cam Newton criticism is race related. Some closed minded fans can’t stand an African American quarterback and that is a fact. Many may not even admit it to themselves that race plays  a part of their dislike for Cam Newton.

Before the NFL draft I didn’t want the Carolina Panthers to draft Cam Newton. I wanted LSU cornerback Patrick Peterson. I had no bias against Cam Newton, I just bought into the fact that no spread offense quarterback had been successful at the NFL level.

Of course I was wrong in not wanting Cam Newton to be a Carolina Panthers and am glad I was wrong. Cam Newton has shown the Panthers fans what the future will bring, a heck of a good franchise quarterback playing in Charlotte.

Cam Newton does bring some criticism on his self by pouting and wearing the dreaded towel on his head. Cam Newton’s towel is the most famous one not waved by Steelers fans. I really feel that a white quarterback wearing a towel would be considered quirky. With Newton it’s just another reason to criticize him.

Cam Newton will shut up some fans and media because he is only going to get better. But he won’t shut all of them up and that is a shame. Cam Newton fans should just try to look over the bigoted idiots and enjoy having such a great quarterback to pull for.
