The Carolina Panthers are running a fairly balanced offense under offensive coordinator Chudzinski. The perception is that the Panthers are throwing the ball a lot and they are but they still run the ball often as well.
Though 12 games in the 2011 NFL season the Panthers rank 9th in passing but 6th in running the ball. Carolina Panthers fans are used to Fox Ball where running is the focus of the offense. But the balanced Carolina Panther offense with Cam Newton and company is so much better.
The Panthers have run the ball 294 times and passed 239 times coming into week 13. That is pretty balanced offensive play for the Carolina Panthers. The Panthers have a slight time of possession lead over their opponents for the season and that is due to the balance.
Just think how good Cam Newton and the Carolina Panthers offense would be with a little bit better offensive line. Injuries have plagued the Panthers and ineffective play and penalties have been an issue as well.
For that matter the Panthers offense will improve as Cam Newton gets more experienced. I expect less balance and more passing as the rookie phenom matures into the quarterback position. The Panthers offense won’t abandon the run of course. DeAngelo Williams was resigned to a huge deal and Jonathan Stewart is even better than Williams at this point.
With a poor and injury riddled defense the Carolina Panthers offense has to be effective for the team to win. Coach Chud and Shula (the quarterback’s coach) have done an excellent job with Cam Newton so far in 2011. I am enjoying this season but look forward to great play out of the Carolina Panthers offense and Cam Newton for years to come.
