Panthers Sign Geoff Hangartner

Geoff Hangartner has rejoined the Carolina Panthers after having been let go by the Buffalo Bills. I would not be shocked to see Hangartner start against Arizona Cardinals at right guard.

Hangartner is a utility type offensive lineman best suited to guard and he has started games in the past for the Carolina Panthers. Geoff played in Carolina from 2005 to 2008 before joining the Buffalo Bills.

With all the injuries the team has faced Hangartner will help to solidify the offensive line and replace Williams and Schwartz who have been hurt at guard. Hangartner will possibly back up Max Jean-Giles a former Eagle who was also signed recently. I feel that Handgartner’s past relationship with the Carolina offensive line may give him the advantage though.

Cam Newton, DeAngelo Williams and company will be glad if either one of the two pickups are able to play well right away. The skill positions of the Carolina Panthers are ok if the linemen can help them out against Arizona.

Defensive tackle Marcus Harrison who was recently brought in failed his physical which left the team a roster spot. I am a little surprised that the team is standing pat at cornerback with players like Lito Sheppard out there. I still think the Panthers may make a move at that position before too much longer.

Panthers Release Everette Brown!

The Carolina Panthers have waived Everette Brown their second round pick of the 2009 draft. What hurts worse is that the team traded their 2010 first round pick to get in position to draft Brown. Everette Brown was a speed defensive end but worthless against the run and apparently only had one pass rushing move, a spin.

I am very impressed that the Carolina Panthers would release Everette Brown this early in his career. The Panthers have a recent tradition of holding onto bad draft picks too long trying to save face.

My happiness with the Panthers keeping David Clowney didn’t last long as the team released him today. Former Charger wide receiver Seyi Ajirotutu has been picked up to join Legedu Naanee another hard to pronounce name.

The Panthers have added some help to the defensive line with the signing of defensive end George Selvie and defensive tackle Marcus Harrison formerly of the Rams and Bears respectively.

Former college linebacker turned NFL safety Stevie Brown a former Raider was signed mostly for his special teams play. Cornerback Josh Thomas a former Dallas Cowboy has also joined the Carolina Panthers as the team continues to tweak the roster.

The release of Everette Brown by the Panthers will put Armanti Edwards on notice. The former Appalachian State quarterback started off well at wide receiver this year then developed a case of the drops. If the Panthers are indeed prepared to walk away from unproductive players quicker than in the past, Edwards could be in trouble.
