GM reflects on big trade

Greg Schiano's policy has been quite clear in his short time with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He isn't taking any garbage and is looking for "Buccaneer Men."

The recent trade of DT Brian Price, who was picked in the 2010 NFL draft second round, caught some people off guard, but the move was explained by Mark Dominik.

"It just didn't work out with Brian,'' Dominik said of the new Chicago Bear.

"He's had an unfortunate career and an unfortunate personal life, a really tragic personal life. So it's very difficult to think about all the things he's gone through, from losing his sister, to the injuries he's dealt with and the surgeries he's dealt with."

Making the move was needed, and the team feels that it has the depth to rebound.

"But at some point we have to go out there and win some football games, and part of the plan for us was to be involved in free agency this offseason and go out and find guys like Amobi Okoye and Wallace Gilberry, who can help out, so his was a position that we have focused on, knowing this day could come," Dominik said.

"But (the Bears) know Brian is not in the condition he probably wants to be in. I talked to Phil Emery, the Bears' general manager, and we talked about Brian and where he's at. So we'll see."

Only time will tell if it works out, but this team plans to build through free agency and the draft. Those who aren't all in, can picture themselves out. Price is just another example.

Time to honor Ronde Barber

We all know what Ronde Barber has meant to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers over his career. The star CB, who came out of Virginia, dominated big-time wide receivers throughout his career. He gave Bucs fans many fantastic memories, including the game-clinching interception on Donovan McNabb in the 2002 NFC Championship Game. Now, the team plans on honoring the future Hall of Famer.

The team will honor him in Week 1 at home against the Carolina Panthers as Barber will be making his 200th career start.

Bucs make major splash in free agency

Yeah, yeah. We all heard it.

All the talk about the Tampa Bay Buccaneers never spending has gone at the window in just a week.

Greg Schiano's club made three bold moves in free agency to help out the team, coming in the way of an elite wideout in Vincent Jackson, one of the best linemen in the league in Carl Nicks and a solid corner in Eric Wright. The players were introduced after signing.

These moves are brilliant for the NFC South squad.

Entering the postseason, the team's biggest issues were at wide receiver, o-line and corner. That has all been addressed with three players in the middle of their prime. It's exciting for Bucs fans.

Mitch Langford, a big Tampa fan from North Florida told SportsBlog.com, "It's unbelievable. I thought it was April Fool's Day or something. The team made some bold moods and really showed that they are going to try and compete. It's a great feeling as a fan.

"Getting younger is great, but each year, your goal has to be to win the Super Bowl. This is a step in the right direction."

Now, for run, here are a two predictions for this season.

Eric Wright  -- 45 tackles, five interceptions, one forced fumble, one touchdown

Vincent Jackson -- 78 catches, 1,291 yards and 10 touchdowns
