Thanks for checking out my review of the Carolina Panthers at the Houston Texans game. The Carolina Panthers upset the Houston Texans by the score of 28 to 13. The Carolina Panthers managed to hold off a late game surge by the Houston Texans for the win.

The first half belonged to the Carolina Panthers as they took a 21-0 lead. The Carolina Panthers even used a fumblerooski type play as Cam Newton handed the ball to Brockel by slipping it between his legs. Brockel then ran a misdirection play into the end zone with ease as everyone else went the other way.

The Houston Texans started badly with a fumble by Foster on the first drive. The Carolina Panthers took advantage of that by moving down for a touchdown pass to Steve Smith from Cam Newton.

The Houston Texans were really banged up coming into the Carolina Panthers game. I also felt the Texans played flat for most of the game. It appeared the Texans let down a little after locking up the first playoff spot in franchise history last week. T.J. Yates struggled against the Panthers defense but the Texans kept plugging away before Carolina sealed the deal in the fourth quarter.

T. J. Yates completed 19 of 30 passes for 212 yards with two interceptions and no touchdown passes. Yates had problems getting the ball to his receivers on a few plays but he kept playing hard.

Jordan Senn had his best game as a Carolina Panther in my opinion. Senn had 12 tackles, two assists, one interception and one forced fumble. James Anderson also stepped for the Panthers against the Texans. Anderson had five tackles, one assist and an interception of a T.J. Yates pass.

Of course Cam Newton was an important part of the Carolina Panthers upset of the Houston Texans. Newton completed 13 of 23 passes for 149 yards with two touchdowns and no turnovers. Cam Newton also had a 17 yard run among his 55 rushing yards against the Houston Texans.

Steve Smith had five receptions for 82 yards and a touchdown pass from Newton. Jeremy Shockey had two receptions for 35 yards and one touchdown catch. Shockey was very animated during the game and played well.

DeAngelo Williams rushed for 61 yards on 15 carries and had a touchdown run. Jonathan Stewart ran for 43 yards on 11 carries against the tough Houston Texans run defense. Check back soon for my preview of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at the Carolina Panthers.

Brandon Hogan Active for the Carolina Panthers and some injury news

Brandon Hogan the rookie cornerback out of West Virginiawill be active today for the Carolina Panthers against the Houston Texans. Hogan was selected in 4th round of the 2011 NFL draft by the Panthers but has been out with a knee injury until this week.

Brandon Hogan is a raw cornerback and return specialist who played wide receiver before switching to defense atWest Virginia. On a Carolina Panthers team decimated with injuries it will be nice to see Hogan get some playing time.

The Carolina Panthers are out of playoff contention so I would like to see younger players like Brandon Hogan get some playing time. Getting their feet wet in real NFL action is the best way to show the Panthers whether they can play or not.

Cornerbacks Darius Butler and Captain Munnerlyn out and questionable respectably Hogan will probably get some playing time against the Houston Texans today. Jordan Gross, Charles Godfrey and Bryant Browning are questionable for the Carolina Panthers against the Houston Texans today.

More of on the game status of injured Carolina Panthers against the Houston Texans. Chris Gamble, Antwan Applewhite, Ryan Kalil, Greg Olsen and Kion Wilson are probable today.

The Texans injury report shows Andre Johnson, is out for the Houston Texans against the Carolina Panthers today. The Texans are very banged up and may rest some players for part of the game as they try to get ready for their first playoff showing in franchise history.

Preview of the Carolina Panthers at the Houston Texans

This is my preview of the Carolina Panthers at the Houston Texans to be played on Sunday December 18th 2011. The Houston Texans having lost two quarterbacks for the season still clinched their division last week. The Carolina Panthers started strong againstAtlanta before faltering in the second half.

With the Texans clinching their first playoff berth in franchise history it’s unclear if they will rest their starters or not. I will assume the Houston Texans will go all out against the Carolina Panthers to try to secure a home playoff game.

The Texans have won seven straight and now have rookie T.J. Yates at quarterback and one of his backups is former Carolina Panther Jake Delhomme. I am not worried about Delhomme helping the Texans much as the Panthers did not use the same offensive system when Jake played for them.

To beat the Houston Texans, the Carolina Panthers need to play four quarters of mistake free football. Under Wade Phillips the Texans have a very sound defense against the run and the pass. On offense with a rookie quarterback the Texans will try to have their number three rushing offense in fine working order.

I think the Carolina Panthers should go old school John Fox ball and run often. To keep the Texans from running on the banged up Panthers defense, the offense should run on Houston.

I feel that DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart are primed for big games if they get the opportunity. Cam Newton needs to keep Steve Smith in his thoughts early and often against the Texans.

Look also for Coach Chud to get the tight ends and running backs involved more in the passing game. Against the 3-4 blitzing Texans defense Cam Newton will need to dump the ball off fast on shorter routes.

I expect a slight letdown by the Texans who have a large amount of injuries on their roster. They will try to win the game but I don’t think they can stay as high as they have been in recent weeks.

The Panthers are the perfect team to knock off the Texans in a classic trap game. Coach Ron Rivera wants to finish 2011 on a good note and will have the Carolina Panthers fired up to upset the Houston Texans.

My prediction for the Carolina Panthers at the Houston Texans is that Houston will win it at home 27 to 24. Please check back here for my review of the game when it’s over and check me out on Twitter here.
