Thomas Davis Tears ACL Again

Thomas Davis has torn his ACL for the third straight year thus ending his season. The outside linebacker is one of the most popular Carolina Panthers and will be missed on and off the field. Ironically Davis was seen before the Packers game waving a Jon Beason jersey. Beason was injured earlier in the season and is also out for the year.

Despite his history of tearing the ACL the Panthers gave Thomas Davis a new contract this year with a $7 million signing bonus. WFNZ’s Brett Jensen reported on Facebook that the contract only had one guaranteed year though.

The loss of Thomas Davis for the year is devastating as a once great linebacking unit is now on its last legs. Charlotte native and former Eagle Omar Gaither or Jordan Senn will replace Thomas Davis for the rest of the season.

The Panthers have been playing gritty defense but have suffered from interior defensive play not being as good as it could be. But losing Thomas Davis for the third straight year will hurt the team’s moral as well as on the field play.

If you want to leave messages for the Panthers concerning Thomas Davis or anything else check out their team wall here at Schoolofthelegends.com. In the interest of disclosure that is a partner site of this one. But it really is a cool site where some current and former Carolina Panthers as well as players from all NFL teams, can be found.

I hate it for Thomas Davis that he is missing another year due to his ACL. He always seems so upbeat in interviews and I know he does some nice charity work. I won’t speculate as to whether he should retire but I hope he does what is best for him and his family.

Beason Out For The Season

Jon Beason is out for the season with a torn Achilles leaving the Panthers without their best defensive player. The Panthers are lucky to have such a deep linebacking unit as Dan Conner will replace Jon Beason at middle linebacker.

Jon Beason missed the entire preseason with an injury probably related to his Achilles which he tore against the Cardinals. After having minor surgery Beason rushed back to play and was injured and will be out for the season.

Jon Beason is a three time Pro Bowl middle linebacker and was a first team All Pro once. In four seasons Beason has 421 tackles, 122 assists, eight interceptions, three forced fumbles and four fumble recoveries according to profootballreference.com

The Panthers will certainly miss Jon Beason at middle linebacker even if Dan Conner steps up in a big way. Beason would have gotten hurt no matter what but the defensive line needs to step up to help the other linebackers.

Speculation is that Carolina Panthers will replace Jon Beason with a veteran defensive tackle. After week one NFL teams can pick up veteran players without having to guarantee their salary for the entire season. This protects the team if the player is a dud and makes sure the player will go all out in order to keep the checks coming in.
